Looking Past the Cultural Divide
We continue to be challenged in the Sunday messages to reach out.
Pastor Dennis made it so clear about those 2 commandments being co-equal and co-essential. I think that that is a mystery of sorts and explains the tension of living out those commandments. Personally, I think God loves mysteries! It is then that we must rely on Him. We can't truly live those commandments that are at the heart of how God wants us to live unless we are connected to Him.
Applying our lives to this message means paying attention to our personal conversations with God...you know, praying and listening to God. And as we spend time with Him this week, let's ask Him to give us His heart in regards to the people and their needs.

WOW.....what an impact Sunday's message has had on me. Looking past the cultural divide won't be easy for me. My nature is to "dismiss" people or things that seem to be beyond my reach. I don't feel like I judge people by their circumstance or culture, but by turning away from the needs of others, not matter what the culture or illness or financial status, I guess, in a way, I am judging them.
My "take away" from the message on sunday is this: People are dying...mothers & fathers are dying....innocent children are dying...God created these people and he loves them just like he loves me. I can't look away anymore. If I am willing to get involved, I can make a difference!!
WOW!
Sunday's message was great, I also feel we can make an impact throughout our week at or in our everyday environment by being aware of others. Simply by dropping a positive line of encouragment or it can just be saying hello. We never know if we'll be the only person in someone's day that made them smile or feel good about themselves.
I feel when I make a conscious effort to do things like this, it helps me with the rest of my life thinking about others who aren't physically here with me but I can reach out to through prayer, donating food, money or sharing their needs and how to reach them with others. Can't wait for the Bono video next, I've already invited some friendcs to check it out. And they're so surprised to hear that a Bono interview would be in a church.... Cool!
