The Single Greatest Gift

Imagine-
we can bring the truth to people around us, that life is better with Jesus.

As we begin this campaign of Just Walk Across the Room, let's practice listening to the promptings of the Holy Spirit as Sean spoke about.
  • People matter to God...that is what this is all about...not making conquests, but really caring about people the way God does. Let's start thinking and praying about the people already in our lives and imagining what knowing Jesus can do for them.
  • God uses people to make a difference. Let's start praying for ourselves to be ready to be used.
  • Embracing the interruptions. It would go a long way toward integrating into our lives what the Bible teaches by regarding interruptions as an opportunity to see what God can use us for, rather than getting angry or frustrated that our day is not going the way we planned.

I am so challenged personally to really get the concept of "Walk Across the Room". I am in the middle of reading the book and it is so helpful. We get so busy that we forget that people matter to God - all people. Because I work at the church my challenge is to find creative ways to be around peole who are far from God. It is too easy for me to stay church focused. Listening to the promting of the Holy Spirit is something that has to be cultivated. Why would He continue to speak to us if we don't listen and obey. Yikes!

This "walking across the room" is going to be a real challenge to me, I know. the church is where i work, where i play, where i have my friendships. i have very little contact in my daily life with people who don't know Jesus. But over the past couple of weeks, with the messages on Sundays, I know that if i am willing there are going to be opportunities - most probably unexpected & inconvenient ones! I already find myself really looking at people more - salespeople - neighbor walking the dog, etc., not just passing them by like a typical New Englander. I have gotten into the "low touch" habit over the years. But I have the feeling that i'll be getting more "in touch" with my "high touch" upbringing.
A bit scary. A bit exciting....

Listening to the message I couldn't help but think of the people who have walked across the room. The people who have walked across to the younger generation going through the difficult teenage years. The ones who made a difference to my teenagers. People that volunteered to spend time with the youth. People like Ellen Dumont, Susan Hillman, Dave Witherall, Dan and Margaret Caine, Amanda Greer, Shane Bessette, Joy Fonger Capodanno and Jeff Raby. Then there are all the others that crossed the room on a Sunday to talk with them, or engage them in acts of service or just genuinely care. People like Pam Gaboury, John Pardini, Steve Raby, Dawn Pratt, Donna Baril, Sal Capozzoli, Vivian Rein, and I'm sure many more! THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO THE PROMPTING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT!

I little off sunday's message but, today's 'first saturday' was a continuation of sunday. Plus, I learned the difference between a blogger and "another"!! I thought this morning was encouraging, but also a very honest exchange about how difficult it can be to "walk across the room" . I love the website. It's was fun to jump on and quickly read the devotional at work or even reading the notes makes me feel closer to all the woman. Pam
